What is Safe Travel Solutions?

Safe Travel Solutions is a training curriculum that teaches simple protective measures that can increase the safety of your group’s international travel experience.

Who created Safe Travel Solutions?

Safe Travel Solutions was designed by the security-training experts at Ft. Sherman Academy in scenic Northern Idaho—a company that provides security training and services to thousands of missionaries, charitable aid groups, government employees, business people, and others.

Who is Safe Travel Solutions for?

Safe Travel Solutions is most relevant for those participating in both short term and full time missionary efforts. However, it is also helpful to families, charitable aid groups, government employees, and business people.

Why is this training important?

Taking your group through a Safe Travel Solutions training course not only provides the necessary tools and strategies for traveling abroad successfully, but STS training also helps relieve the stress that often accompanies a trip of this nature. Most importantly, participants will learn how to avoid compromising the ministry work of those where they are traveling.

Is Safe Travel Solutions relevant for countries that are “basically” safe?

Unfortunately, there is no “basically” safe country. Every trip we take—even those within the United States—present some form of risk. Sometimes, the journey to a “basically” safe country can take you through less desirable places just to get there. Safe Travel Solutions provides important strategies to help you navigate through situations no matter where you are.

Was this formally a DVD product?

Yes. Safe Travel Solutions was formerly a DVD product but is now delivered through a virtual classroom environment.  All session videos, course materials, and leader resources are available online allowing you to participate in the training at your own convenience.

Is the online training the same as the DVD and why did you change?

We are expanding upon the original version with additional videos, leader materials, and a virtual classroom environment for students. With the advancements in technology and at the request of many of our customers, we developed a digital delivery platform. This platform is easy to use and provides more flexibility for group members to learn at home, church, or other environments that are convenient for them. In addition, it allows us the opportunity to provide real-time updates as needed without the costly expense of producing more DVDs.

Is classroom instruction still important?

Absolutely. We encourage all groups to watch the videos on their own and then come together as a group to discuss, roll play, and for encouragement. The downloadable Leader Guide provides everything needed to navigate the group environment.

Can I still purchase the DVDs?

No, the DVDs are no longer available for purchase.

What are the elements to the training?

Safe Travel Solutions is a 6 session training course with 15 video modules. Each video module is approximately 15-25 minutes and includes follow up quiz questions to reinforce learning. Downloadable leader and student materials are also included. In addition, you will find separate bonus videos for Leader Training and Pre-travel Planning.

How do I choose a plan?

There are three plan offerings to best meet the needs of your organization. Plans are based on the number of group members going on your trip and include an Individual Security Plan, 25 Group Member Plan, and 50 Group Member Plan. Larger group plans are available by emailing Please be aware that all payments are final and non-refundable.

How do I cancel my Account?

If you would like to cancel your account, follow these steps, Log into your account and click on the My Account tab. Under subscriptions you will find a Cancel option. You will have access to the videos until the end of the billing cycle. Please be aware that all payments are final and non-refundable.

I can’t sign into my account

If you don’t remember your username and email address or if you’re unable to sign in to your account, you may need to reset your password. Also, please be sure to check the following things:

  • Your password is correct (be sure your caps lock is not on)
  • Your usename is typed correctly
  • Use the "Forgot Password" link, perhaps you are already in our system
  • Are cookies enabled in your web browser? (We use cookies for our log in process)

I’m having problems with my Internet browser streaming videos.

We have found Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome to be the most reliable for PC users.  Both are free and take only a few minutes to install.  If you are using a Mac we have found Safari to work great.  You can download Firefox, Google Chrome, or Safari for free by clicking on a link below.




Older browsers like Internet Explorer 8 will likely cause problems. Microsoft no longer support Window's XP, which also means that Internet Explorer 8 will be unsupported.  Internet Explorer can be very difficult to work with because it does not follow modern web standards.

Why does the streaming video keep pausing?

You may be experiencing slow data transfer. Even Netflix, and Hulu occasionally see "buffering" issues on their streaming services. If you pause the movie and wait for more (or all) of it to download before you resume playing, it will play without stopping. Your internet connection may not be fast enough to stream high-quality video. We typically suggest that you have at least 3-5 MBPS solely dedicated to streaming one video from our library. You can tell how much of the movie has downloaded by looking at the controller bar at the bottom of the player window. You will see the bar fill in with gray, from left to right, as the movie downloads. Once the controller bar is completely filled in with gray, the movie has finished downloading.

Buffering can also be caused by too many applications on your computer running at one time. Please close any other applications on your computer so that your computer can focus on processing the videos on Safe Travel

If you are on a shared network, you may need to find out if anyone else is streaming video, downloading a file or sending a lot of emails. These types of actions will take away from the available network speed that you will need to stream videos.

Can I log in to Safe Travel from any computer with my username and password, or am I limited to a single computer?

Yes, you can log in to Safe Travel from any internet-connected computer. However, you can only be logged in to one computer at a time.

Why am I being charged Sales Tax?

State law requires us to charge sales tax for any subscription purchased by an organization located in Tennessee that has not submitted a tax exemption form to us. If your church is located in the State of Tennessee and is tax exempt, please print off the form below, and submit a completed and signed copy to our offices by email us.

Once we receive your completed tax exempt form, sales tax will no longer be added to future subscription charges. Please be aware, that all payments are final and non-refundable.

Organizations located outside of the state of Tennessee are not charged state sales taxes.
